ABOUT COSTA RICA

Costa Rica is one of the most prosperous countries in Central America. It boasts a long history of democratic stability and one of the highest rates of foreign direct investment per capita. It is also one of the least populated, with just 5 million inhabitants. Of those 5 million, 2 million live in or around the capital, San José. Most workers with a high level of education speak English. This country provides ideal conditions for international business. While traditional exports such as bananas, coffee, beef, and sugar remain the mainstay of the Costa Rican economy, ecotourism has been playing an increasingly important role over the past few decades. This is because Costa Rica is one of the most popular destinations in Central America. The Costa Rican model serves as an example for most, if not all, countries in the region regarding the importance of preserving environmental resources. Costa Rica is also a major exporter of medical devices and a true leader in the manufacture and export of over 4,600 products related to green energy use and development. In 2016, 98% of the country’s energy demand was met through hydroelectric, solar, geothermal, or biomass energy sources.

Costa Rica has an ideal geographical location, situated between North and South America. In other words, it is equally close to both regions. Additionally, its coastlines are bordered by both an ocean and a significant sea (the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, respectively). Moreover, it is one of the most peaceful countries in the Americas according to the Global Peace Index, making Costa Rica perfectly positioned to be an ideal location for foreign direct investment.
