Mexico has 28 seaports located on it’s Atlantic/Carribean side, and 13 on the Pacific side. The ten largest cargo seaports are Lazaro Cardenas, Manzanillo, Veracruz, Altimira, Isla de Cedros, Punta Venado, Guerrero Negro, Coatzacoalcos, and Guyamas.

Lazaro Cardenas

 The largest Mexican seaport, and one of the largest global seaports located in the Pacific, the port of Lazaro Cardenas in Michoacan is a deep water port handling container, dry bulk, and liquid cargo.

Manzanillo

The port of Manzanillo, located in Colima, is the second largest Pacific Mexican port, and handles most of the traffic coming through Mexico City. It handles container, dry bulk, and liquid cargo, and it a main port for tuna fishing boats.

Veracruz

 The port of Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest and largest port, located on the Atlantic and dating back to Spanish colonization. It is an important shipping connection for the US and European markets, and is a chief automobile port, with over 70% of Mexican manufactured cars shipping from there.

Altamira

 Located in Tamaulipas, on the Gulf of Mexico, Altamira is an important port for the North Eastern region of Mexico. It has a large industrial park attached to the port, making it an ideal spot for oil and energy companies, and is connected to all the major regions by railway.

Isla De Cedros

 Isla de Cedros, also known as Puerto de Cedros, is located in the Mexican state of Baja. This port is primarily used for salt farming exports which are sent to Asia.

Punta Venado

 Located in Quintana Roo by Cozumel, this port primarily serves for gravel, sand, and mineral exports, though it is also a popular cruise ship stop.

Guerrero Negro

 Located in Baja, this small port is primarily used by the nearby salt mine which supports the local economy.

Coatzacoalcos

 On the southern side of the Gulf of Mexico in Veracruz, Coatzacoalcos is primarily used by oil and petrochemical companies in the region.It is well connected by rail and highway, and close to an international airport as well.

Guaymas

 The principal industrial port for Sonora on the northwestern coast of Mexico, this port is a hotspot for foreign investment, especially for the booming aerospace industry in the region.
